Managing money together

This is where your day-to-day money lives — everything coming in and going out, split fairly, with pots for the bigger plans and a running view of what you are worth together.

Transactions

The Transactions page is your shared income and spending — always honest, always in sync. What one of you adds, the other sees.

A few things make it feel like a shared account rather than a spreadsheet:

  • Who paid — tag each transaction with which of you paid, so it is always clear.
  • Categories built for South Africa — groceries, bond or rent, school fees, medical aid, stokvel contributions and more.
  • Reactions — react to a transaction with a quick emoji. A 🎉 for a great save, a 😬 for the one you both regret — it keeps money light and human.

Importing from a bank statement

Do not type everything by hand. Open Import and bring in transactions from a bank CSV — Couple Capital auto-categorises them and skips duplicates, so you can import the same statement twice without making a mess.

Contributions — a fair, proportional split

If one of you earns more than the other, splitting everything 50/50 rarely feels fair. The Contributions page works out a fair, proportional split of your joint budget based on what each of you earns — no blame, just the maths. Each partner sees their share, and you can see at a glance whether you are both on track for the month.

Sinking Funds

Sinking Funds are shared pots for the big plans, so a large expense never lands as a nasty surprise. Create a pot, set a target amount and date, and watch it fill. Couple Capital comes with ready-made templates to start from, including a trip, a wedding, a ring, a relocation buffer, a TFSA pot, and an Emergency fund (aim for three to six months of expenses). During a money date you get a quick review of every pot and how it is tracking.

Net Worth

The Net Worth page brings it all together: everything you own and owe, in one shared view. Add your accounts, assets and debts, and Couple Capital shows your combined net worth climbing over time — the single number that captures the progress you are making as a team.
