Capital is your friendly money coach, built into Couple Capital. Open the AI Coach page and just ask — Capital gives you personalised guidance grounded in your real numbers.

What Capital can do

  • Answer questions about your actual money — because Capital can see your shared numbers, its answers are specific to you, not generic tips.
  • Help with the everyday stuff — budgeting, paying down debt, saving toward a goal, and thinking through a big purchase.
  • Speak South African — Capital understands Rands, TFSAs, RAs, medical aid and the local money landscape.
  • Get you ready for the hard conversations — organise your situation and lay out the questions worth asking before you see a professional.

What Capital will not do

Capital is an educational coach, not a licensed financial adviser, and it is honest about that line:

  • It will not tell you which specific product to buy, sell, switch or cancel.
  • It will not invent figures such as exact tax limits — when a number matters, it points you to the current source.
  • When a question really needs a licensed professional (complex tax, trusts, structuring your estate), it will say so, and help you prepare the context to take to them.

Think of Capital as the teammate who helps you understand your money and ask better questions — not as a replacement for professional advice.

Bring your own AI model

By default, Capital uses Couple Capital's built-in model, and you do not have to configure anything. If you would rather use your own AI provider, you can:

  1. Go to Settings → AI.
  2. Add your own OpenRouter API key and choose which model answers your coach.

Your key and your model preference stay on your device — they are never stored on Couple Capital's servers. If you clear your key, Capital simply falls back to the app default. When you use your own key, your question and household context go to OpenRouter under your key, and the model provider you pick will see them — the app tells you this so you can decide what you are comfortable with.
