Money Dates

The Money Date is the heart of Couple Capital. It is a relaxed 15-minute check-in where the two of you sit down, celebrate the wins, look at the month together, and make a few decisions — as a team, without the blame. Couples who check in monthly report less money stress and more saving.

You do not have to know what to talk about. Couple Capital runs the whole conversation for you, step by step.

Booking a money date

Open Money Dates and schedule your first one. Pick a time that suits you both — a Sunday evening works well for many couples. Choose how often you want them to repeat (monthly is the sweet spot), and Couple Capital keeps the next one on your calendar so the habit sticks. Your upcoming date also shows on the dashboard.

When it is time, open the date and choose to run it.

The guided run

The run is a friendly, ten-step flow. You move forward with Next and back any time, and a progress bar shows where you are.

Running a guided Money Date in Couple Capital

  1. Welcome — a relaxed 15-minute check-in. Be kind, be honest, and celebrate the wins first. You will see your income, spending and savings for the month before you begin.
  2. Celebrate your wins — start on a high. Each of you adds what went well this month, big or small ("resisted an impulse buy" counts).
  3. 18-month cash map — the big commitments coming up, laid out on a timeline, so you can see whether you are pacing for them.
  4. Sinking funds review — a quick pass over your savings pots and how each is tracking.
  5. Emergency fund — your safety net, shown as how many months of expenses it would cover.
  6. Tickets to the game — if you have set up a Move Plan (for example a 2028 move), you check where each go/no-go criterion stands today: Go, On the way, or Not yet.
  7. Legacy Lab — pick one forward-looking money move to explore before the next date, like topping up a TFSA or refreshing your wills.
  8. Essentials check — a glance at your Essentials Vault: anything with a review due, a renewal coming up, or a beneficiary to confirm.
  9. Capture decisions and actions — write down what you decided and who does what before next time. Decisions are saved to your decisions log; action items can be assigned to either of you.
  10. Done — a celebration, plus a short Coach's note summarising your date. Your next money date is automatically booked to keep the streak alive.

Why it works

The money date puts both of you in the room at the same time, with your real numbers in front of you and a gentle structure to follow. Wins come first, hard topics get a calm frame, and every decision is written down so nobody has to remember it later. It is the single most valuable habit in Couple Capital — and it is only 15 minutes.
