Frequently asked questions

Does Auxo Codex upload or copy my notes anywhere?

No. Auxo Codex reads and writes your markdown files directly on disk. Your notes stay exactly where they already live on your Mac.

What platforms does it run on?

Auxo Codex is a native macOS app. There is no web or Windows version today.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. There's no sign-up and no login — the app works entirely with folders you choose on your own Mac.

Is the AI chat required?

No. Everything else in the app — browsing, search, links, dashboards, and editing — works fully without ever opening the chat panel.

Does the AI chat send my notes to the cloud?

Only if you choose to use a cloud AI provider and connect your own key — and even then, only the specific context needed to answer your question is sent. When a local AI model is available on your machine, Auxo Codex uses it instead and nothing leaves your device. See Chatting with the local AI.

Can I use it with more than one vault?

Yes — see Connecting your vault for how to add and switch between multiple vaults.

What happens if I edit a note somewhere else while the app is open?

Auxo Codex watches your vault folder for changes and refreshes automatically, so edits made in another app or by a teammate show up without you needing to do anything.
