Connecting your vault

Auxo Codex works with a plain folder of markdown notes on your Mac — often a folder that's already syncing via a cloud drive or a git repository. The app never copies your notes elsewhere; it reads and writes the files in place.

Choosing a folder

Click Select Codex Folder (first launch) or use the vault switcher in the sidebar to browse to your notes folder. Your choice is remembered on this Mac, so you won't be asked again next time you open the app.

Working with more than one vault

The vault switcher lets you add additional folders and jump between them — handy if you keep separate vaults for different teams or areas of your life. Each vault keeps its own settings; switching vaults never mixes their notes.

Live from disk

Because Auxo Codex reads straight from your files:

• Edits you make in another app (or that a teammate makes, if the folder is shared or synced) appear the next time the app refreshes — a background file watcher does this automatically for you.
• Edits you make inside Auxo Codex save straight back to the same .md files, so any other tool pointed at that folder sees them too.

If your vault is a git repository

When your chosen folder is a git repository, a small sync indicator appears showing whether you're up to date, have unsaved changes, or have changes awaiting review. You can trigger a sync manually, or switch between automatic and manual sync from the same control. If a sync ever fails, the indicator flags it clearly so you know to check back later.

Removing a vault

Use the vault switcher to remove a folder you no longer want listed — this only forgets the folder in Auxo Codex; your notes on disk are never touched or deleted.
